Laser-cut Box
A parametric box designed for laser cutting from flat sheet material — plywood, MDF, or acrylic between 3 and 6 mm thick. Every panel is generated with interlocking finger joints, and the lid pivots on round pins that snap into the side walls.
Parameters
- Width / Depth / Height — outer box dimensions in millimetres (30–600 mm).
- Material thickness — the exact caliper of your sheet (3–6 mm). Finger joints and slots are sized from this value, so measure it precisely.
- Finger size — nominal width of each joint tab. The generator rounds the count so corners always interlock.
- Kerf — the width of material your laser burns away. Dial this in for a snug press-fit (typically 0.1–0.2 mm).
- Pin diameter — the round hinge pin that lets the lid swing open; usually material thickness plus a little clearance.
Output
The generator exports a flat DXF with every panel nested on a single sheet, ready to drop into LightBurn, xTool, or any laser job. Cut lines are true vector paths at 1:1 scale.
Assembly
Peel the panels off the sheet, fold the box together at the finger joints, and press the lid pins into the side-wall holes. A drop of wood glue on the box joints makes it permanent; leave the lid pins dry so it keeps pivoting.
Tips
- Run a small test cut first to calibrate kerf for your machine and material.
- Thicker sheets need a slower feed or a second pass — check your laser's cut chart.
- Acrylic gives crisp edges but is more brittle at the finger joints than plywood.
