About this generator
Laser Cut Box with Lid is a parametric finger-joint box generator for plywood, MDF or acrylic. Set the outer dimensions and material thickness, and it lays out every panel — four walls, a base and a hinged lid — with interlocking finger joints and a pin-hinge mechanism. Export a single DXF + SVG file with all panels nested on one sheet, ready for LightBurn, LaserGRBL or any laser cutter.
What you can change
- Width / Depth / Height — outer box size, 30–600 mm.
- Material thickness — 3–6.5 mm; accepts imperial plywood (3.2 / 4.76 / 6.35 mm). Finger joints adapt automatically.
- Finger density — fingers per 100 mm of edge. More fingers = a stronger glue-up.
- Kerf — laser kerf compensation for a tight press-fit. Leave at 0 for a netto outline and tune it in your laser software.
- Hinge pin — diameter of the lid hinge pin (must be thinner than the material).
- Lid handle — width, height and offset of the lid cap.
- Corner fillet — round the outer corners for a softer look.
What you get
Export delivers a .zip with two files — a DXF (R2000) and an SVG. Every cut line sits on a red cut layer, which most laser software maps straight to “cut”. Panels are nested on a single sheet and labelled, so you can send the file to your machine and assemble without guesswork.
Cutting & assembly tips
Use 3–6 mm plywood or MDF for furniture-grade boxes, or acrylic for a clean modern finish. Run a small test cut first to dial in kerf — a good finger joint taps together with light hand pressure and holds without glue. The lid pivots on its pins, so glue only the body joints, never the hinge.
